VSP Process

Conventional surgery planning process involves cephalometric radiographs with tracings, dental impressions, and articulator-mounted models. This technique has inaccuracies amplified during the algorithmic process. The advent of VSP has called into question the efficacy and accuracy of traditional analytical model surgery.

After clinical & image diagnosis, the entire process of virtual planning in orthognathic surgery is divided into the different processes outlines below.

01.

3D image acquisition: Capturing data through CT/ CBCT, STL files, Intra & extra oral photographs

02.

Conducting Anatomical Assessments: Airway assessment, mock tracing analysis and TMJ view

03.

Planning Surgical Movements Virtually: Conceptualize the plan prior to the surgery

04.

3D Printing: Splints, guides, and models are 3D printed basis requirements

With the plan obtained through clinical and imaging examination in place, the surgeon will perform the necessary course of action-based outcomes planned by the team and expected by the subject.

This will allow for a reproducible plan and, consequently, safety for surgeon, orthodontist, and patient.

Advantages of VSP
for Orthodontists

1

Alginate/ rubber-based impression is not required

2

No need to mount stone models and reposition the models as per the surgical plan

3

Expensive semi-adjustable/ fully adjustable articulators are not required

Happy Doctor

4

Facebow transfer is not required

5

Fabrication, trimming and polishing of splints is not required

6

Occlusion contact points can be visualized prior to the surgery

Advantages of VSP

for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons

VSP can allow for minimally invasive surgeries. It follows the osteotomy line nearly the same as in a real intraoperative osteotomy

Three-dimensional imaging enables the surgeon to establish necessary osteotomy planes preoperatively and assess different surgical scenarios

DICOM file allows generating OPG and lateral-cephalogram

Surgical corrections can be undertaken with ease

The trial of presurgical planning can be performed within an unlimited time

Profile outcome prediction aids in effective communication between the surgeon and the patient

Benefits of VSP
for your patients

01

VSP ensures that patients can have sufficient information on the surgery beforehand and aids in comprehensive patient education

03

VSP promotes a more accurate analysis of dentofacial deformity and preoperative planning, leading to safer surgeries

03

When surgeries are quicker, patients spend lesser time in the OT which results in significant cost savings

04

Patient can see the post-surgical profile prediction prior to the surgery which motivates patients to go ahead with the surgery

05

Minimally invasive surgeries, anticipation of potential intra-operative problems and repetitive virtual surgery results in quicker surgeries

06

Since the duration of the surgery is reduced, patients spend lesser time under general anesthesia, leading to faster recovery

Testimonials

Using 3D Technology for planning our Orthognathic case made things easier and smooth for me and my team. Thank you, Dr. Akhil Shetty sir, for your guidance throughout. The splint provided was of good quality and helped us get the occlusion we desired. Overall, a very positive experience working with Route to Smile.

FAQs

What data is required to prepare the Virtual Surgical Plan (VSP)?

Are there any CT Scan protocols?

What are the analyses performed while making the VSP?

Can we just get a Pre-treatment COGS analysis?

Do you provide 3D printing of Intermediate & Final splints without the treatment planning as a standalone service?

Will just the CT/CBCT work or is it compulsory to send a dental scan/ dental cast/ impression?

How is VSP different to the conventional articulator method?

Will you also be performing a facebow transfer and use articulators?
